Principle of suspended solid concentration testing
As the concentration of suspended solids continues to increase, suspended particles in water will interact with each other. On the one hand, incident light cannot reach all particles, and on the other hand, scattered light in the 90 degree direction will be blocked by a large number of particles, making it impossible to sense. Therefore, when testing high concentrations, it is necessary to change the way to test scattered light in the other direction. WTW uses two methods to test the concentration of suspended solids, using 60 degree scattered light at low concentrations and 180 degree backscattered light at high concentrations.

Turbidity and suspended solids are two important indicators for water quality monitoring. Online testing of turbidity and suspended solids usually uses infrared light scattering method, which is mainly used in surface water, aeration tanks, tap water, circulating water, sewage treatment plants, sludge reflux control, and discharge monitoring.

Optical lenses are most afraid of contamination, and if there is dirt on the surface, it will lead to incorrect test results, making it difficult to determine the magnitude of the error caused. Moreover, after contamination, particles will exponentially adhere to the contaminated lenses, exacerbating the degree of pollution, especially in harsh application environments such as sewage treatment plants. The real problem lies in how to avoid microbial scaling. Therefore, even after manual cleaning and wiping, the sensor still needs special cleaning to ensure thorough cleaning.

The instrument has an AutoRange automatic range switching function to achieve optimal resolution. Therefore, using only two types of sensors can test almost all samples, from drinking water to viscous sludge.

The basic principle is briefly described as follows:
There is an ultrasonic generator on the sensor, and as long as the sensor is connected to the system, high-frequency ultrasonic signals are generated, causing the optical lens to vibrate continuously with an amplitude of several micrometers. At the center of the lens, the amplitude is the highest. This can prevent any form of pollutants from accumulating on the lens, ensuring continuous and reliable operation. Some calcium salts will still adhere to the sensor over time, forming dirt that is difficult to remove even with a brush or other cleaning agents, and can only be removed by acid washing. Ultrasonic vibration can also prevent bubbles from accumulating in the testing area and interfering with the test, as bubbles also scatter some light.

The maintenance cost is reflected in the following aspects:
a. Compared with traditional sensors with scraping blades, the sensor surface of WTW is very smooth and flat, and dirt is not easily attached to the surface of the lens.
